I’ll never forget my first and only time rafting the Klehini. Before making our way to the put-in, Bob had us all gather around and he said something like: “There is a chance you could die on this run. If you swim, you are on your own.” I was terrified but appreciated the honesty. We ended up having a safe, fun day!
I also won’t forget the day Bob helped rescue a partially buried skier in an avalanche years ago during a Tat Camp weekend in the Haines Pass. I remember he told the skiers not to go up the slope before they started their ascent. I always felt safe in the backcountry with Bob.
I will miss Bob’s calm demeanour and that unforgettable smile.
